Weekly Hump Day Free Promotion: L'osteria

The North End of Boston is home to Boston's best restaurants with the finest Italian cuisine.

Every day people try to convince me that South End is a close second. I don't buy it. The South End, Back Bay and Beacon Hill combined still don't even come close to the North End. Anyone who has been there more than once will agree.

The question people ask, "what is your favorite restaurant" is an impossible question to answer. If you say Strega you want to be seen and think you are a celebrity, if you say Giaccamo's you watched too many Rachael Ray shows and are a follower and if you say Regina Pizzeria I won't necessarily argue but pizza doesn't count right now...

There really is no best restaurant. There are just tiers of quality restaurants; the 9.somethings, 8's and 7's. There are no sub 7's in the North End.

While I love Saraceno's basement wine seller atmosphere, Fiore's roofdeck and Damiano's small plate dishes, my current favorite it L'osteria on the corner of Salem & Cooper Street.

The Atmosphere is a 9.7, the food a 9.8 and service a full 10. But the price is what really sold me. I took my girlfriend there for our anniversary and I almost fell off my chair when I saw the bill.

2 apps, 2 entrées and a 'bottle' of wine for under $70. The key was the wine, and here is my breakdown.

In the North End a bottle of house Pinot Grigio anywhere is at least $50. Factor in tip and that bottle becomes $60 and its only about 3 or 4 glasses. At L'osteria it is $20 ($24 with tip) and it is at least 6 glasses worth in a large jug type decanter, not a bottle.

My overall rating is a 9.9, go try for yourself.

2010 Boston Murder Map

Sorry to depress all of you but for some reason I found this interesting.

There have been 54 murders in Boston this year already - higher than last year and we still have 2 months to go. Pretty sad.

Sunday Funday Prediction: NFL Week 8.

Patriots vs.Vikings (10/31/2010)

My prediction:

Pats 26, Vikings 20.

This "Grab a Shovel and Get to Work" 1994 game is legendary for a few reasons...

1) Drew Bledsoe completed 45 passes in this game (record at the time).

2) The Patriots were down nearly 3 touchdowns at half time.

3) The overtime coin flip had to be done over since the Vikings' captain called heads after it already landed.

4) Back of the end zone touchdown pass to win. Bledsoe at his finest.

Enjoy.
